FAQs

What do you look for in applicants?

Prospective members should have strong interest in advertising, marketing, market research, and/or advertising design. They must be willing and able to work in teams, and motivated to participate in club-wide activities. We look for members that are able to think creatively and solve client challenges. 

What does the interview process look like?

Prospective members that make it to the interview round will be placed in group interviews with 2-3 people per interview. While Market Research team interviews are separate from Creative Design team interviews, both types will be given a case, where interviewees will work together to create a marketing campaign for a startup, along with behavioral questions.

What is the time commitment?

MAM is a commitment that you can definitely balance with school and other activities. Our client teams meet once a week for about an hour, and new members will have an additional hour-long weekly meeting for training. Plus, we have once a month mass meetings with updates on projects, networking opportunities, and more. 

Do I need marketing experience?

Marketing experience is not required! We educate all of our new members with weekly market research and creative design workshops. When reviewing applicants, we look holistically at all types of valuable experiences that can give transferable skills. We are open to taking new members of any age, and we will weigh experience and why you want to join MAM in our decision. 

Should I apply to MRT or CDT?

Apply for the team that you feel your skills best benefit the club and our clients. Typically, our Creative Design Team (CDT) members have had past experiences in graphic design, UI/UX, videography, photography and more and have a portfolio to easily showcase skills. Our Market Research Team (MRT) members have had past experiences working on teams.

What majors do you accept?

MAM values diversity of thought and experience, and this is reflected in the large range of majors our members are proud to study. We accept undergraduate students of any year and from any program or major. With students that come from a range of backgrounds, our clients are provided with diverse teams that produce the best work possible.

What kinds of clients do you work with?

Our client teams work with established businesses in and out of Ann Arbor. Some of our clients in the past have included Satchel’s BBQ and Skoller, an app that helps students keep track of class schedules and deadlines.

Where do MAM members end up after graduation?

MAM alumni not only go into advertising and marketing, but e-commerce, merchandising, finance, consulting, user experience design, product management, brand management, and more. Recent graduates have joined the ranks at companies such as Bloomingdale’s, American Express, Unilever, Kraft Heinz, Accenture, JP Morgan Chase & Co., IBM, Amazon, PepsiCo, Citi, and Microsoft.
